There are so many great things to do on and around The University of Arizona campus. As two Wildcat alum, we’re happy to share with you some of our favorite Tucson college traditions.

Krissy’s Favorites

Tailgate! – Tucson is a college town, and football and basketball become not just college events but community events as well. It also helps that the U of A has one of the most scenic college campuses, which makes hanging out there even better.

Frog & Firkin – This is a great restaurant off University Boulevard that serves up great food and drinks, and has one of the biggest beer menus around. Grab a seat on the patio and enjoy the beautiful weather Tucson has to offer. I highly recommend the green fries; they are delicious!

Nico’s Mexican Food – This is a local favorite and a great stop after a long night out. Some of the favorite menu items include the super fries and their variety of breakfast burritos.

Bison Witches – Head down to 4th Avenue for this great lunch spot which turns into a busy bar late at night. Their sandwiches are enormous as are the soup bread bowls. The “Tucson” sandwich is one of my favorites.

Zoe Boutique – One of Tucson’s greatest boutiques is close to campus and downtown, also located on 4th Avenue. They are not overly expensive and offer a great mix of clothes.

Student Union & Bookstore– The U of A has the largest student union in the country and has almost anything you could need. Here you have everything from great foods like Chick-Fil-A and Panda Express to a game room and career center. There are also lots of hidden quiet areas perfect for studying or taking a quick nap.

Also, the bookstore is a great place to stock up on all of your U of A gear. The Friday before any home football game, you can get 25% off most U of A clothes, perfect to create your tailgating outfits!

Breweries– There are three breweries close to campus–Gentle Ben’s, Barrio Brewing Company, and Borderlands Brewery. Even if you are not quite 21 you can visit Gentle Ben’s and Barrio to enjoy their food, while Borderlands is only open for beer tastings.

Carrie’s Favorites

Pasco Kitchen & Lounge – A relatively new addition to University Boulevard, but probably my favorite restaurant on this strip of street. I recommend the Patio Herb Collins cocktail and the T-Town nachos with chicken.

Wilko – I love the sophisticated air of this wine and cocktail bar. It’s a great place for a drink by yourself at the bar, a quiet dinner with a couple girlfriends, or it’s dimly lit enough for a romantic meal for two.

Chocolate Iguana – Located at the corner of 4th Avenue and 6th Street, I frequented this coffee shop often when I was in high school. (I’m a graduate of Tucson High, just down the street). It’s a cute little shop with great sandwiches, coffee drinks, and a wonderful selection of candies as well as some cute gift items. If you’re looking for a sandwich, you can’t go wrong with their turkey pesto.

Yoga Oasis – With two studios relatively close to campus, students will be able to find inner peace and outer strength with this local studio’s practice. And, students will appreciate the $4 yoga hour classes.

UA Campus Recreation Center – Students love the recently expanded and remodeled student rec center. Campus Rec highlights include the Olympic-sized swimming pool, the recently added climbing wall, and group fitness classes.

Coffee Xchange – Students love working at this local coffee shop located off campus at Grant Road and Campbell Avenue. Best part? Coffee Xchange never closes. Caffeine, free wi-fi, and pastries are available to you 24 hours a day to help you through that paper or test.

What do you think about our list of favorites? Truthfully, this list doesn’t even begin to represent the many things we love about the U of A and the area surrounding it. Leave a comment and share your favorite campus spot.
